Eligibility Criteria for Voluntary Registration
The UAE government has recently introduced a voluntary registration scheme for businesses, allowing them to voluntarily register for VAT even if they are not required to do so by law. This scheme is aimed at helping small businesses grow and encouraging them to take part in the country’s economy. However, there are certain eligibility criteria that businesses must meet to be eligible for voluntary registration in the UAE. We will discuss the eligibility criteria for voluntary registration in the UAE.
Business Turnover:
One of the eligibility criteria for voluntary registration in the UAE is business turnover. Businesses that have an annual turnover of AED 187,500 or more are required to register for VAT.
Taxable Supplies:
Another eligibility criterion for voluntary registration is taxable supplies. A business can apply voluntarily for VAT registration if taxable supplies of the business are between 187,500 and AED 375,000 in the recent 12-month period.
If it chooses not to register for VAT, it will not be subject to any fines relating to non-registration, but it will also be unable to recover input VAT incurred in providing taxable supplies.
In conclusion, the UAE government has introduced a voluntary registration scheme for businesses that allows them to register for VAT even if they are not required to do so by law. Businesses that meet the eligibility criteria for voluntary registration can register for VAT and take part in the country’s economy.
The eligibility criteria for voluntary registration include business turnover, taxable supplies, non-resident businesses, taxable supplies from other GCC countries, businesses with a place of residence in the UAE, businesses with a place of residence in another GCC country, businesses that intend to make taxable supplies, businesses that are not required to register, businesses that are not required to charge VAT, businesses that are not required to keep records, and businesses that are not required to submit VAT returns.
If you are a business owner in the UAE, check if you meet the eligibility criteria for voluntary registration and take advantage of this opportunity to grow your business.
